Some Historical Facts of Website Designing

Here are a few facts about the history of website designing. Sixteen years ago in August1991 the first website was published by Tim Berners-Lee. Prior to that the Internet existed but was used mainly for sending e-mails and news groups. Hypertext also was being used but only for browsing information within a single desk top computer. It was Tim who combined hypertext with the Internet. An HTML version of that time was very basic and used mainly for headings and paragraphs.

The evolving arena of web design saw the markup language becoming more advanced and one could start adding images and tables into the pages. Tables were more used to lay out web pages than display of information for which it was intended, but off late tables are being replaced by Cascading Style Sheet (CSS).

Another significant evolution in web designing has been the use of Flash in websites. Flash is both an animation and application development program and has opened the world of dynamic web designing of pages enabling interactivity and new browser functions.

Search engine optimization techniques are today used which focus on a website’s visibility especially the web marketing websites. Such web sites demand a unique style of web design with the emphasis shifting from mere good looks to more preferred functions like usability and interactivity and the use of descriptive or semantic markup language.
