Clinical Data Entry (CDE)
The clinical data entry (CDE) technology is fast evolving. It is said that the nurses in the health sector spend almost a quarter of their working time for entering clinical data manually or otherwise and for related documentation work. Clinical data entry technologies are bound to change this as it will be beneficial to the health sector in the following ways, - Reduced documentation time
- Will increase standardization of medical dictation
- Reduced errors
The biggest challenge for CDEs had been the fact that the one had to use the patient data directly for decision support systems, for assessment of quality, and this required well structured data entry. Today we have CDEs that combine free text and structured data entry in one single application and allows clinicians to smoothly switch between these two different types of data input. It is predicted that over the years clinical data entry will be commonplace and the patients' records will become living documents that can be quickly and directly used by clinicians to manage health care in a more continuous manner without waste of time in between. The CDE will be a great boon to the health sector of the future as it will increasingly integrate together, - Decision support systems
- Quality assessment systems
- Direct access to online biomedical literature
- Patient record

Bar Code Services Technology
The technology behind bar code services is very simple yet quite efficient and quick. A bar code may be compared to a car's number plate or license number that is used as identification. The bar code basically consists of a reference number which when fed into a computer can get more information about the subject in question. The bar code has to be printed on to a product or a printed barcode sticker has to be fixed on to items like is usually done in Supermarkets where the bar code is read with a light source and is fed to the computer for all details of the products, its rate and other descriptions to be displayed for the purpose of billing and sales. What happens in the supermarket when the staff runs the barcode scanner over the printed barcode sticker? - The light source from the scanner is absorbed by the dark color bars of the bar codes and the lighter spaces reflect the light.
- The reflected light is received by a photo cell detector which converts the light energy into electrical signals.
- During the scanning process two types of high and low signals gets created.
- Scanner's decoder decodes the bar code signals and identifies it.
- Data is fed onto the computer as regular text (not bar code) data.
Bar codes are highly useful and have applications in different industries including health care, retail marketing, security etc. As the bar code technology is very easy to use and is also very quick with almost nil possibility of error it is bound to be around for along time to come. Compared to the human eye, the barcode scanner is hundreds of times more efficient and cost-effective. Another similar technology to the barcode technology is the RFID (radio frequency identification) technology that uses the radio frequency signals instead of the optical laser technology as used in bar codes. Managed Outsource Solutions (MOS) is a US based BPO pioneer and outsourcing company that offers competitively priced bar code services besides other data entry services including, data mining, data cleaning and KDD solutions to clients in the US, the UK, Canada and Australia. Redefining E-discovery in Litigation Support
Legal communities and specifically the professional litigation support professionals have been facing a challenging situation in E-discovery and document review for some time now. Ever since the recent changes were made to FRCP it is obvious that in no litigation can avoid technology to face the ever expanding universe of electronic evidence. The olden ways of working with huge boxes of files at the law firms are over. According to Forrester research the spending in E-discovery alone is going to increase five fold in the next five years. However there has been a constant struggle to make the process of document review as quick and user friendly as possible considering the huge quantity of data made available and the drain in terms of time and money. The new technology in E-discovery is basically a data analysis concept that brings back a tinge of the traditional methodology of searching through groups of relevant document. This new enhancement in e-discovery technology is referred to by different terms in legal circles including, conceptual review, topic review, and data clustering. Instead of searching through millions of documents each time using keywords, the new method groups the data/document according to topic/theme even before the document review process begins, so that one will know beforehand what can be expected in a set of data. Now it has become easier to search for your needle in the haystack. Benefits include better workflow and work organization according to skill. More details on the technology and how it compares with the earlier technologies can be got at http://www.ontrackinview.com/whitepaper/topic2006.pdf . Litigation support professionals will love to see the latest issue of the litigation support magazine for more information on this new concept review technology at http://www.litigationsupporttoday.com/LST%20AUG07-FULL.pdf#page=8Managed Outsource Solutions (MOS) is a US based legal outsourcing company and legal services provider that offers professional yet affordable outsourced nationwide litigation support, document review, legal documentation, legal transcription, legal web design and legal research services to clients in the US, the UK,Canada and Australia.
