Web Design Documentation
- Can review the website layout
- Suggest changes
- Improvements and enhancements
The structure of a website can be diagrammed and this is called as the site map of the website. It sitemap gives us a visual perception of the arrangement of all the web pages on the site, their content and interconnectedness. The structure of a website can be done in three possible ways. They are,
- Branch design website with frequent hyperlinking
- Linear sequence
- Tree design with more than one path for navigation
The layout of individual pages can be planned using the story board concept where a series of pages are arranged depending on their purpose, content, title, and decisions are made as to how the pages are to be interconnected. This process can be done on paper but if the number of web pages are more it is done with the help of a software.
Website documentation is often done in more detail using a website wireframe. Wireframe is a visual guide that shows the layout and placement of design elements on the website pages. A wireframe has to be made before the artwork is done and is very useful in maintaining the consistency of a website and creating a brand experience in the website. The wireframe is done on a graphic program and does not have any functionality but is just used for planning and designing the website.
